Horticulture Education for Seniors
The Garden Education: Senior Centers committee was formed by the Cherokee County Master Gardeners our of a love for our senior citizens and gardening.
Committee members wanted to provide gardening opportunities for senior citizens. The committee, chaired by Judy Lester, works to create programming that educates and engages seniors in gardening activities while having lots of fun together. Topics covered included growing sedums, bulbs, growing and using herbs, making seed balls, and caring for gift plants. Upcoming topics include arranging dried flowers and windowsill gardening.
Quarterly classes are held at the Cherokee Senior Services Center on Univeter Road and at the William G. Long Senior Center on Arnold Mill Road in Woodstock. Classes are currently postponed due to health concerns. Classes will resume as soon as possible and the Ballground Senior Center will be added to the senior centers receiving services from the Garden Education: Senior Center committee of the Cherokee County Master Gardeners.
