The Senior Education Programs Committee was formed by Cherokee County Master Gardeners in 2018 out of a love for our senior citizens and gardening. Committee members aim to provide gardening opportunities for senior citizens. The committee, chaired by Judy Lester, works to create programming that educates and engages seniors in gardening activities while having lots of fun together. In addition to laughter and social engagement, classes also include instruction, a gardening project designed for seniors, and a handout.
Topics covered in 2022 included Dish Gardens, Birding from My Window, Pressing Flowers and Leaves, and Seed Dispersal and Seed Balls.
In 2023 we plan to address the following topics: Forcing Bulbs, Pass Along Plants, Water Rooting Plants, and Using Herbs at Home.
In 2023 our classes will be held in February, April, June, and August at the Cherokee County Senior Services Center on Univeter Road in Canton and the Ball Ground Senior Center in Ball Ground.
