Exploring Gardening with Children
April 29, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Start them young! Research has shown that children who are able to play in and explore gardens and green spaces in an unstructured way are better able to remain grounded and in tune with nature as adults. Even without trees to climb, there are more possibilities for adventure in a garden than indoors. With a little guidance, some basic equipment and a few plants, kids can transform the smallest space into a blooming oasis they can be proud of. Every garden from a container garden to a giant vegetable plot offers children a rich sensory playground full of interesting things to discover, learn about and enjoy.
Event Description: In this webinar we will explore gardening from a child’s perspective and give you suggestions to help young gardeners develop their green thumbs through fun and interesting activities designed just for them. Our presenter, Barb Schirmer, is a New York native who moved to GA nine years ago. She has been a Cherokee County Master Gardener for four years and has a special interest in working with children in the garden. Barb has extensive experience working with young people through her career in the 4-H Youth Development program in New York.
